The Geonaut

"Do you realize we know less about the earth we live on than about the stars and the galaxies of outer space? The greatest mystery is right here, right under our feet." - Walter Reisch
"The outrageous is the reasonable, if introduced politely." - Charles Fort
The world is an incredible place.

As an accidental earth science graduate, that's clear. Studying archaeology - as the history of human impact on the earth - completely blew up my concept of science, a field that had always seemed boring, remote, and terrifyingly mired in practicalities. I was always interested in history, nature and the paranormal, and archaeological science as an increasingly interdisciplinary subject brought these together. Three years wasn't enough to explore all the ideas that were suddenly made viable, so the Geonaut was born.

"If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?" - Albert Einstein

These articles are all a result of my own research outside formal education. It is both a platform for questions and answers, and a showcase for my interest in the field. I will be revisiting older research I find fascinating, and commenting on new ideas. Among the topics that will be covered are:

  •     Archaeology
  •     Geology and sedimentology
  •     Paranormal research
  •     Death studies
  •     Taphonomy
  •     Historic buildings
  •     Phycology

  • The earth is the most interdisciplinary and diverse environment we have. Now we know more about the surface of the Moon than the bottom of the ocean, now our planet is hurtling towards a climatological crisis and human interaction with nature is at the forefront of global concern, this is the perfect time to learn more about our home.
